Being clocked means someone has worked out that you are trans without you telling them. It is the opposite of passing, and it is the word trans people use among themselves for a specific and often unpleasant moment.
The word carries the feeling rather than the fact. Being clocked is not neutral recognition; it usually comes with a look, a pause, a change in how someone speaks to you. In some rooms it is nothing. In others it is the start of a bad evening.
Not everyone minds, and some people are open about being trans and cannot be clocked because there is nothing to discover. The word applies when the information was not offered.
Clocky is the related adjective, used for a feature someone worries will give them away. It is almost always used about oneself, and almost always about something nobody else has noticed.
Clocking someone is not a compliment in either direction
Saying you could tell is not a neutral observation, and saying you could not tell is not the praise it is meant as: it treats being trans as something that would have been a problem if visible.
