Home Glossary Trixic

Trixic

A nonbinary person attracted to women.

Trixic describes a nonbinary person who is attracted to women and feminine people. It exists because lesbian and sapphic both carry an assumption about the speaker's own gender that a nonbinary person may not want to make.

It belongs to a small set of words built for exactly this problem: toric for nonbinary people attracted to men, diamoric for attraction between nonbinary people.

It is not a replacement for lesbian. Plenty of nonbinary people use lesbian and mean it; trixic is for those who do not want the word to carry a claim about their own gender.

The word is also spelled with an x deliberately, marking it as part of this newer set rather than a variation on an older one.

Trixic does not replace lesbian

It is sometimes presented as a correction, as though nonbinary people ought to stop using lesbian. Many nonbinary lesbians would disagree, firmly.

It is an option for people who want to name the direction of attraction without making a claim about their own gender in the same word.

Saying it well

Say this

  • I am trixic.
  • Nonbinary, attracted to women.
  • Trixic rather than lesbian, because of what lesbian assumes.
  • Trixic and toric both, as it happens.

Not this

  • So you are a lesbian
  • Why not just say lesbian
  • That is a made-up word
  • Nonbinary people cannot be lesbians
