Where it comes from

The pangender flag was designed by Cari Rez Lobo, a Brazilian artist who posts as pangendering on Tumblr, and first proposed on 28 January 2015. Its layout is based on the agender flag.

Why the colours are so pale

The designer explained that the colours are bright and pale to represent the multiplicity of genders, because white light is a combination of all colours. The stripes can be hard to tell apart on a white background.

What pangender means

Pangender means having many genders, often described as all the genders available within one's own culture. Pangender communities have long been clear that this does not include closed identities that belong to specific peoples.
