Transneutral describes someone whose transition moves toward a neutral gender rather than toward man or woman. It is the counterpart of transmasculine and transfeminine, naming a direction rather than a destination.
The direction matters practically, because most medical and social pathways are built around the two binary destinations. Someone transneutral often wants some interventions and not others, in combinations the pathways do not anticipate.
It is not a synonym for nonbinary. Nonbinary describes a gender; transneutral describes a direction of travel, and plenty of nonbinary people are transmasculine or transfeminine instead.

It is regularly used as a synonym for nonbinary, which loses what it adds: nonbinary says what someone is, transneutral says which way they are going.
