Detransition
Stopping or reversing a transition, for reasons that are usually not what people assume.
Detransition means stopping or reversing some or all of a transition. It happens, it is worth naming honestly, and the arguments around it are almost entirely conducted by people who have not done it.
The reasons people give, when asked, are overwhelmingly external: losing housing, losing family, losing safety, losing work, being unable to access or afford ongoing care, or finding the social cost unbearable. A smaller number describe concluding that they are not trans.
Both groups exist and both deserve honesty. Using the second to argue that transition should be harder ignores that most detransitions are caused by the pressures that would increase, and using the first to deny that anyone ever changes their mind is equally dishonest.
Retransition is the word for starting again afterwards, which also happens and is rarely mentioned.

Most detransitions are not about having been wrong
The word is used almost exclusively as an argument, by people making a case about other people's healthcare.
When those who have detransitioned are asked directly, the reasons given are overwhelmingly external pressure rather than a changed understanding of their gender. Both experiences are real; only one gets quoted.
