What is dating like as a trans woman?

Dating as a trans woman is not one experience. It depends on who you want to meet, where you live and whether you are out on your profile. But a few patterns come up so often that they are worth naming plainly.
The attention problem
On apps that admit everyone, a large share of the messages trans women receive come from men whose interest starts and ends with the fact that she is trans. The word for that is chaser. It often looks like flattery at first and turns into questions about bodies, surgery or being someone's first.

The disclosure question
When and whether to say you are trans is your decision. Some women put it in their profile so the filtering happens before a conversation starts; others prefer to tell someone once there is trust. Both are reasonable, and both have trade-offs. Do I have to tell someone I'm trans? weighs them.
Protecting your time and safety
Move to a video call early: it filters out many people who were never going to meet you respectfully. Meet in public the first time, tell a friend where you are, and leave whenever you want. None of this is paranoia. It is ordinary practice for anyone meeting strangers, and it matters more when transmisogyny is part of the picture.
Who you want to meet changes everything
Trans women who date women, including transbians dating other trans women, often describe a very different experience from dating men, with far less of the attention described above. Where it gets better
