Abroromantic
A romantic orientation that changes over time.
Abroromantic describes a romantic orientation that changes. It is the romantic counterpart of abrosexual, and the two move independently: someone can have a stable sexual orientation and a shifting romantic one.
The changes arrive rather than being chosen, and they follow no schedule. Someone might be biromantic for a year and aromantic for six months with nothing having happened to explain it.
It causes the same practical difficulty as abrosexual and one additional one: romantic orientation is the half that most directly shapes relationships, so the shifts are felt by more people than oneself.
Abroromantic is not fickleness
Because romantic orientation shapes relationships directly, the shifts get read as a character trait rather than an orientation.
The word describes where romantic attraction points, and the movement of that is not a decision any more than its direction is for anyone else.
Saying it well
Say this
- I am abroromantic.
- The romantic half moves; the sexual half does not.
- Abroromantic, so the label depends when you ask.
- Right now, aromantic.
Not this
- So you fall out of love
- That is just being fickle
- You were lying before
- Pick one
