How do I make trans friends?
Show up where trans people already gather, more than once, and let the friendship be about more than being trans.
Trans friends are often what people say changed everything: someone to ask the questions nobody else can answer, and someone who does not need anything explained. Making them as an adult takes what any friendship takes, plus knowing where to look.
Where trans people spend time
Support groups and LGBTQ+ centres are the obvious places, but many friendships start in groups built around something else: queer sports teams, book clubs, games nights, choirs, craft circles. A shared activity takes the pressure off the conversation.

Going more than once
Repetition matters more than anything else. One meetup rarely produces a friend; the fourth often does, because by then people recognise you. Pick one or two regular things and keep going for a couple of months before deciding it is not working.
Starting a conversation
You do not need to open with your story. Talk about what you are both there for, notice something specific, or ask a simple question. Being trans is common ground, not a topic you are obliged to cover.
Swap contacts early and suggest something small: a coffee, or going to the next meetup together. Most people are waiting for someone else to suggest it.
When friendship and dating overlap
Trans communities are often small, so friends, exes and dates overlap. Being clear about what you are looking for, and respecting it when someone only wants friendship, keeps the community livable for everyone. Some people keep a separate dating space for exactly that reason.
