Paragender
Mostly one gender, with a persistent part that is something else.
Paragender describes being mostly one gender with a significant and persistent part that is something else, or nothing. The usual figure people give is around three quarters, though the point is the arrangement rather than the fraction.
It differs from demigender in emphasis. Demigender describes a partial connection; paragender describes a strong majority with a remainder that does not go away.
Paraboy and paragirl are the specific forms, for a majority that is male or female respectively.
Paragender is not the same as demigender
The two are close enough that they get used interchangeably, which loses the difference in emphasis.
Demigender says the connection is partial. Paragender says the connection is strong and there is a persistent remainder, which is a different shape.
Saying it well
Say this
- I am paragender.
- Mostly one thing, with a part that stays other.
- Paragirl, if you want the specific one.
- The remainder does not go away.
Not this
- So you are demigender
- Round it up and call it done
- Which part counts?
- That is splitting hairs
