Home Glossary Boyflux

Boyflux

Being a boy or man, with the intensity of it rising and falling.

Boyflux describes someone whose gender is male, with the strength of that varying over time. Some days it is fully there; other days it is faint, and at the low end it can approach agender or neutral.

It is genderflux applied to a specific gender, and the same distinction applies: the gender does not change, only how strongly it registers. A boyflux person on a low week is still a boy.

Its counterpart is girlflux. Both are used by binary and nonbinary people, since varying intensity does not require the gender itself to be nonbinary.

Boyflux does not mean stopping being a boy

The intensity varying gets read as the gender switching off, which is the distinction genderflux exists to make.

On a low week a boyflux person is still male; the feeling is quieter, not absent, and for most people the low end still sits inside the gender rather than outside it.

Saying it well

Say this

  • I am boyflux.
  • A boy, at varying volume.
  • Boyflux, so this week it is quiet.
  • Boyflux and still a man throughout.

Not this

  • So some days you are not a boy
  • Make up your mind
  • So you are genderfluid
  • That means you are not really trans
